Residential Complex Hafenbahnpark

The new residential quarter - Hafenbahnpark - is comprised of six buildings providing a total of 385 dwellings. It includes a mix of 1 to 4 room apartments, dedicated student housing, and specialised living arrangements for people with physical and/or cognitive impairment. The development is further enriched by a children's day-care centre, a support facility for the disabled, and a range of commercial units. Designed as an open ensemble, the scheme follows a comb like building arrangement set within a park like site that is entirely free from vehicular traffic. The long, linear ‘Langhaus’ forms the development’s prominent edge along the street ‘An der Hafenbahn’, running parallel to the adjacent railway line. Its position and massing serve as an effective acoustic barrier, shielding the Terrassenhäuser behind it from noise and creating a calm, protected residential environment within the interior of the site.
